“A mother’s love always comes with expectations…” “We don’t have to fear what we don’t know…” “This is my love letter to you…” These words, poems, prose, tales, and dialogue, collected from dozens of women & gender-marginalized individuals, tell the mother-daughter stories of Sarah (Mercedes Cooper), Joanna (Rose-Marie Roy), and Hero (Victoria Melkonyan), a family of 3 different generations from the late 1970s to the present.
Created in 2017, Generation X, Y, Z is a devised play that was created on the coattails of the "Me Too" movement, the play was born out of the question, "What have we learned about womanhood from our mothers? From other women in our lives? From society?" These questions produced creative submissions (poetry, prose, letter, etc.) that were collected, analyzed, and organized into what we know as the play, Generation X, Y, Z, today. Generation XYZ investigates patterns of trauma, nuances of womanhood, & gender marginalization in varying political climates by following a multigenerational family from the late 1970s to the present.
